Jenné Myers was appointed in 2010 to lead Chicago’s participation in Cities of Service, a national civic initiative launched by the Rockefeller Foundation and the mayors of New York, Chicago and other major urban centers. As the first-ever Chief Service Officer for Chicago, her charge is to develop and implement a citywide plan for increasing volunteerism and utilizing volunteers to address some of the city’s greatest needs. She developed this service plan, One Good Deed Chicago. Prior to her work with Cities of Service, Jenné served for four years as the Executive Director of Working in the Schools (WITS), a Chicago nonprofit that engages more than 1,200 volunteers to promote the love of reading through one-on-one tutoring and mentoring for more than 2,000 Chicago Public Schools elementary students every year. Before her work at WITS, Jenné was Assistant to the Chair of the Chicago Cultural Center Foundation and served as a member of the advance staff for Mayor Richard M. Daley. Jenné is an avid runner and has a natural gift for connecting people.
Alexandra Baird is the Service Communications Coordinator for One Good Deed Chicago. Prior to her move to Chicago in 2011, she worked as a freelance reporter for Los Angeles Times Community News, writing everything from city council news to features on local art collectors. She was born and raised in California, and graduated from California State University Long Beach with a degree in journalism and economics. Alexandra enjoys using her communications skills and web savvy to help boost Chicago’s vibrant nonprofit community. Jamie Brisco-Ricks is One Good Deed Chicago’s Service Events Coordinator, Jamie works directly with One Good Deed partners; plans and manages one-time volunteer events, and coordinates meetings and conferences. Jamie was born and raised in Maywood, Illinois. She graduated from Proviso East High School in Maywood and from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. Jamie completed an internship with the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Foundation in Washington D.C. Her background is in higher education with experience in financial aid advising, leadership training, service learning, and campus programming. Jamie enjoys working with others who believe they too can change the world. She spends her spare time with her husband and their two daughters.
Helen Gerety is One Good Deed Chicago’s Service Initiatives Coordinator. She works directly with One Good Deed Chicago’s partners in order to create a sustainable stream of volunteers. Helen grew up in Arizona but headed northwest for college, graduating from the University of Puget Sound with a degree in business administration. She also completed an internship with United Way of Northern Arizona. She moved to Chicago in June 2011. Helen is excited to work with the wide range of nonprofit and volunteer efforts in the City of Chicago. She is a movie buff and loves to read in her spare time. Find her on Twitter @HGerety.
Alexandra, Jamie and Helen are AmeriCorps VISTAs. VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is the national program founded in 1965 designed to fight poverty. AmeriCorps VISTAs dedicate a year to service at nonprofit and governmental organizations, improving systems and building capacity.
